What's on in the water garden world.
Rare Pants Expo...Silvan (March 2011) We were pleased to be involved in the annual Rare Pants Expo held at Tesselaar Gardens (the home of the Tulip Festival). This is our once a year opportunity to deal directly with the public. The show provides people the access to an abundance of interesting and unusual plants. While having the opportunity to speak directly to the grower. It was a wonderful week end and we would like to thank the Tesselaar family for organising a great event.
Talks and presentations...
Stephen Ryan, from the ABCs Gardening Australia was the MC for the event and as usual helped to make the guest speakers including Darryl (owner of Oz Watergardens) welcome. Darryl gave an informal a talk providing helpful information to the audience on any aspect of their pond that they needed help with or information about. The usual questions of "How do I control algae? What depth can I grow waterlilies?" through to "What are the best pond plants for a shady pond?"
You always get at least one curly question, but it's always interesting when you delve a little deeper into the question, you find that there is a lot more information available to help you work out the best solution.
Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show
(30 March to 2 April 2011).
And the winners are....
A regular supporter of the Melbourne International Flower
and Garden Show. We were please to be able to offer our support to the Landscape design students. This year Renee Visentin from NMIT, used a selection of our larger specimens of Tassel Cord Rush (Restio tetraphyllus) to great effect. They were placed around the back of her landscape and created a soft feathery screen behind her seating area. Congratulations to Renee.
Clearpond's award winning display, helped to showcase
their new range of Pietro sculptures and water features and also to demonstrate
their fountain technology. Not only did it look great, but the fountain
technology was entertaining to watch. We are sure that Water entertainment will be setting new standards in garden designs. The possibilities with lighting and jumping jets of water allows you to enjoy dynamic water effects, even in limited space. Mike was impressed with the quality of the plants that we supplied to complement his display.
Water Features Direct had a great product display. They cleverly combined their range of uniquely designed, self contained water features, with some of our later season flowering waterlilies and also some of our 2 metre high Egyptian Papyrus. David was very pleased to have won a bronze medal after taking over the store only 6 months ago.
Oz Watergardens is also proud to have supported Phillip Johnson
again. To help create another inspirational and award winning "Sustainable" show garden.
Bouyed by all their success, we now look forward to the possibility of more shows in the future.
Talks and presentations... Thanks again to the Victorian Nursery and Garden Industry of Victoria for the invitation to present at the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show. Darryl presented a talk on water gardens on the Saturday and was available for people to ask questions about their ponds. He informed them of the importance of getting the balance right and also highlighted the misconception about oxygenating plants. The weather was ideal for an outdoor talk and it looked like there were good attendances at the show.
