Beautiful water lilies in full flower

Imagine coming home on a warm Summers' day and relaxing beside your pond. The peaceful oasis you created... the tranquil scene enhanced, by your beautiful water lilies in FULL flower.

One of the secrets to beautiful flowering water lilies is slow release fertiliser.

Water lilies, like all pond plants, are heavy feeders. To get the best results from your pond, it is important to provide them with a good source of nutrients. Aquatic plants will be happy with almost any fertiliser at all. At Oz Watergardens, we have developed our own Australian made and owned brand of slow release fertiliser tablets for pond plants, to help stimulate beautiful flowering, lush green foliage and improve plant growth.

Why we use slow release fertiliser tablets rather than organic fertilisers?

As Australia's largest producer of waterlilies and ornamental pond plants, we have commercially tested many products. Manures and composts can be used successfully in a pond. However, if we compare them all in a commercial application on the hundreds of thousands of pond plants that we produce…the problems and limitations become more apparent.

How do you accurately measure how much to apply….How big is a handful?

How old is aged compost or manure before it is safe to use?

How do you minimise the nutrients from leaching into the pond water….creating a murky pea-soup green pond?

How do you add fertiliser to an established pond plant?

Consistent performance....

Oz Watergardens Pond Plant Fertiliser Tablets are a slow release fertiliser, which when applied according to the instructions, provides a complete range of essential nutrients and trace elements to the roots of pond plants. We recommend the slow release fertiliser tablets over organic fertilisers as the tablets provide consistent performance and easy application of an accurate measured dose. It is also the only Australian made and owned slow release fertiliser brand from someone that actually grows water plants commercially. We don't just sell it, we use it!!

When should I feed my water plants?

Repotting or dividing

When repotting or dividing your water plants, it is an ideal time to add the slow release fertiliser.

Spring

Slow release fertiliser should be added to your pond plants in Spring, as the new growth starts to show in your pond plants (see Spring maintenance).

Summer

Repeat the application over the Summer months, to stimulate new flowers and encourage lush growth (see Summer maintenance).

How to reduce the risk of murky green pond water when feeding your pond plants?

It is important to apply any slow release fertiliser or organic fertiliser directly into the soil of the water plant. We recommend removing the plant from the pond. Then, using the end of a broom stick, push into the soil next to the plant, so that you create a hole. Push the fertiliser into the hole and then cover over with the soil. Gently lower the plant back into your pond. By doing this, you are placing the fertiliser nutrients directly near the plant roots and minimising leaching into the water where it becomes available to algae or could be potentially harmful to fish.

Fish and frog friendly

We use the Oz Watergardens Pond Plant Fertiliser Tablets for most of our water plant production. We have fish in most ponds and have counted up to 7 species of frogs in our nursery.  We have never had a problem and (if used at the recommended rates) believe it to be safe for all pond plants and aquatic organisms.

(Please note, that no fertiliser producer, whether chemical or organic, will ever endorse their product to be 100% safe for use under all circumstances in an aquatic environment).

We guarantee our slow release fertiliser tablets will improve the performance of your pond plants!

Give our Oz Watergardens Pond Plant Fertiliser Tablets a fair try. If you don't agree that it has helped your plants and improved their growth, contact us to send back the remainder of the packet for a full refund.
